Train to teach with Hamwic Cluster and Bath Spa University

Train to teach with Hamwic Cluster and Bath Spa University

Training to teach with Bath Spa University via the Hamwic Cluster, provides the highest quality training using the full range of our resources and professional expertise. The training offer is underpinned by an ambitious curriculum and relevant research.

As a partnership, we believe that every child within our Bath Spa / Hamwic partnership deserves the very best teachers. Our new teachers will impact on their lives by improving outcomes and developing confident independent members of the community. The Bath Spa Hamwic partnership offers the opportunity to train to become a teacher while working in the classroom and being part of an established teaching team in our Partnership Schools.

What do trainees learn?

Trainees in the partnership choose to undertake their training through following one of these Primary teaching routes:

Primary 3-7 age phase (Early Years and Key Stage 1)

Primary 5 – 11 age phase (Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2)

Primary 7-11 age phase (Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper Key Stage 2)

Our partnership curriculum is co-constructed and co-delivered by expert colleagues both in school and centre-based training located in the Hamwic Cluster. The curriculum is founded on four key principles – collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and care – and underpinned by the ITT Core Content Framework.

Trainees on the Primary 5 – 11 or 7 – 11 routes can also opt to undertake a specialism. These are subject to change each year, but include subject specialisms (such as English, PE or music) or non-subject specialisms such as Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Successful completion of training to teach within our partnership results in a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
